Only yesterday, May 27, 2022, the NEET MDS 2022 result was announced by the National Board of Examination for Medical Sciences (NBEMS). Both results and category-based cut-offs have been published on the official websites natboard.edu.in and nbe.edu.in. All those who score equal to or above the National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) MDS 2022 cut-off will be eligible for the counseling session. As of now, the counseling scheduled has not been announced by the board.

Getting into a reputed government dental college is the dream of every NEET MDS 2022 candidate. However, this dream will become a reality only when aspirants achieve a good rank. Here is what experts have to say about admission in government colleges and qualifying rank.

NEET MDS 2022 Category-Based Cut-Off

While announcing the NEET MDS 2022 result, NBEMS also released the cut-off percentile for each category. Following table summarizes the cut-offs for all categories –

Name of Category NEET MDS 2022 Cut-Off Percentile Cut-Off Marks
UR/EWS 50th percentile 263
SC/ST/OBC (Including PWD of
SC/ST/OBC)
40th percentile 227
UR PWD 45th percentile 245

All those who score equal to or above their category cut-off will be permitted to appear for NEET MDS 2022 counseling. However, admission will depend on other factors including seat availability, reservation and number of candidates who apply for counseling, It is important to note that 50% seats have been reserved under All India quota while the remaining seats are allotted to state quota.

NEET MDS 2022 Past-Year Cut-Off Ranks

The NEET MDS 2022 cut-off rank denotes the last rank to be allotted admission in a recognized government college, in their respective category. Table given below specifies the cut-off rank for each category –

Sr. No. Name of Category Cut Off Rank
1. General/UR 227
2. SC 1226
3. ST 2336
4. OBC 226

While the rank for each category seems low, NEET MDS 2022 cut-off ranks may differ from last year’s figures. Hence, instead of getting disheartened, all qualified candidates are instructed to apply for the counseling session.

Last year, the category-based cut-off percentile was reduced owing to vacant seats in several PG dental colleges. A similar situation may occur this year, if seats remain vacant after counseling.

Cut-Offs Reduced in 2021

Initially, in 2021, the NEET MDS cut-off percentile for each category was as follows –

Name of Category NEET MDS 2021 Cut-Off Percentile Cut-Off Marks
UR/EWS 50th percentile 286
SC/ST/OBC (Including PWD of
SC/ST/OBC)
40th percentile 250
UR PWD 45th percentile 268

Later on, NBEMS decided on reducing the NEET MDS 2021 cut-off percentile due to vacancy of seats in several colleges. Thus, the revised figures were as follows –

Name of Category NEET MDS 2021 Cut-Off Percentile (revised) Cut-Off Marks (revised)
UR/EWS 31.065th percentile 220
SC/ST/OBC (Including PWD of
SC/ST/OBC)
21.605th percentile 188
UR PWD 26.06th percentile 204

There exists an inverse relation between cut-off marks and cut-off rank, Comparing the 2021 (initial) and 2022 NEET MDS cut-off percentile for each category, it is evident that this year’s cut-offs are 20-25 marks lower. Thus, the cut-off ranks are likely to be higher during the counseling session, as predicted by experts.
