NEET 2022 Physics Chapter Wise Weightage – A Quick Guide For Would-Be Doctors!

National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) 2022 exam is going to be conducted on a nationwide-level, on July 17, 2022. Scheduled in a single session, the test will be held in the OMR-based pen-and-paper mode. Candidates will have a duration of 3 hours and 20 minutes ie, from 2:00 pm to 5:20 pm, to attempt and finish the entire paper. A candidate must not only qualify the exam but also acquire a rank high enough to get into a good government medical college. With 18 lakh+ candidates fighting for for 80,000+ medical seats, the competition is undeniably tough.

For most NEET 2022 aspirants out there, Physics seems like a nightmare to study. However, if studied in a smart and structured manner, this subject is just as scoring as Chemistry and Biology, if not more.

NEET 2022 Physics Chapter Wise Weightage

No one can say for sure what NTA would do in the upcoming exam. However, we can learn from what they did do.

To predict what can be the topics that could dominate the physics paper in NEET 2022, we can understand the past-year weights given to each chapter. Analysing the weightage-distribution for 2021 and 2020 will help candidates prepare for the 2022 session.

Physics chapter-wise weightage for 2021

Last year, the two sections that held maximum weightage were – 1. Electrostatics and Electricity and 2. Mechanics. The former comprises of chapters like Electric Charges and Field, Electrostatic Potential and Capacitance, Current Electricity. The Mechanics section covers chapters like Work, Power & Energy, Center of Mass and Conservation of Momentum, Rotational Motion, Fluid Mechanics.

Although two sections hold maximum weightage, students are advised not to neglect any chapter from the NEET 2022 Physics syllabus. Being highly competitive in nature, any neglect in this exam may lead to a lower rank.

Chapters No. of Qs Asked Weightage (%)
Mechanics 13 26%
Electrostatics and Electricity 11 22%
Modern Physics & Electronics 8 16%
Magnetism 7 14%
Optics 4 8%
Heat & Thermodynamics 4 8%
SHM & Wave 3 6%

Physics chapter-wise weightage for 2020

Unsurprisingly, a similar weightage was given to chapters in the 2020 session.

Chapters Questions Breakup Weightage (%)
Mechanics 12 24%
Electrostatics and Electricity 9 18%
Modern Physics & Electronics 8 16%
Magnetism 6 12%
Heat & Thermodynamics 5 10%
Optics 4 8%
SHM & Wave 1 2%

A weightage pattern followed for two consecutive years (2020, 2021) is most likely to repeat for NEET 2022. Hence, students must plan their remaining Physics preparation keeping the chapter-wise distribution of marks in mind. A similar study pattern is also recommended for Biology and Chemistry.
