HSEE 2022 – Registration (Started), Dates (Released), Syllabus, Exam Pattern


HSEE 2022 – The HSEE registration 2022 has started. Candidates can register online at the official website hsee.iitm.ac.in. The last date to register is April 27, 2022. The schedule for HSEE 2022 has also released along with the information brochure. The exam will be held on June 12, 2022, between 9:00 am to 12:00 pm. The HSEE 2022 admit card will release on May 30, 2022. It will be available till June 12, 2022. The response sheet for paper 1 will be made available from June 20 – 22, 2022. After this the provisional answer key will be released June 23, 2022. Then the HSEE 2022 result will be declared on June 29, 2022. The process of choice filling will be available from June 30, 2022 to July 04, 2022. Seat allocation for this will be declared on July 07, 2022.

The HSEE 2022 is conducted by the Indian Institute of Technology Madras. It is a national level common entrance exam that provides admission to master degree programs in the department of humanities and social sciences. Candidates who want to appear for this exam will have to fill out the application form available online on the official website. The mode of examination is online however, for one section candidates will use the keyboard for typing the answer.

HSEE 2022 Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility criteria for HSEE 2022 has been provided by IIT Madras. The same has been provided below.

Age limit: Candidates whose birthday falls on or after October 01, 1997 are eligible to appear in the exam. However, in case of SC/ST and PwD, the upper age limit has been relaxed. For candidates belonging to this category should be born on or after October 01, 1992.

Educational qualifications: A candidate should fulfill anyone of the following criteria where he/she should have passed the qualifying examination for the first time in 2021 or 2022:

  • Candidate has passed 12th from a recognized central or state board.
  • 12th or two-year pre university examination conducted by a recognized board or university.
  • Final exam of the 2 year course of the Joint Services Wing of the National Defense Academy.
  • H.S.E. vocational exam.
  • Class 12th skill courses of CBSE.
  • If candidate has studied from National Institute of Open Schooling, he/she should have passed with a minimum of 5 subjects.
  • Candidates must complete the General Certificate Education (GCE Exam) Advanced (A) Level (Cambridge, London or Sri Lanka).
  • Candidates must have a Cambridge University High School Certificate Examination or International Baccalaureate Diploma in the International Baccalaureate Office, Geneva.

Minimum marks required: The eligibility criteria is further divided for the minimum marks needed in the qualifying examination. It has been given below:

  • General, GEN-EWS and OBC-NCL candidates should have secured a minimum of 60% marks.
  • For candidates of SC, ST and PwD, the minimum marks secured is 55%.
  • If there are only letter grades in the grade sheet, candidates must ask and get the equivalent marks from the board.

Nationality: Candidates of India and foreign nationals can also appear for the test. However, the requirements for foreign nationals is given below:

  • OCI/PIO card holders will be treated as foreign nationals.
  • Id proof will be needed form these candidates in the form of citizenship certificate or foreign passport or OCI/PIO card.

HSEE 2022 Syllabus

The HSEE syllabus is released. As per every year, the paper is held in two parts, part 1 consists of English, Analytical and Quantitative Ability, and General Studies, and part 2 will consist of descriptive essay writing.

English Reading skills– The candidates will be required to read a passage and test their comprehension skills and answer the comprehension questions

Grammar– This section tests the candidate’s knowledge of English grammar including the structure of a sentence and its usage, use of tenses, active and passive constructions, articles, verb patterns

Vocabulary– This section is to test the candidate’s ability to understand the meaning, structure, and collocation of the words

Analytical and Quantitative Ability This section tests the analytical and quantitative abilities of the candidate question are related to the following chapters:

Numbers, Algebra, Highest Common Factor (HCF), Lowest Common Factor (LCM), Basic Statistics, Ratio and Proportion, Calendar, Percentages, Simple and Compound Interest, Profit and Loss, Discount, Age sums, Work and Time, Linear Equations, Trigonometry, Data Interpretation, Logical and Analytical reasoning, Brainteasers, Patterns

General Studies Indian Economy– This section is intended to test the understanding of some basic economic concepts such as understanding the economy, Main features of the Indian economy, Major economic problems, Economic growth, and development, Planning in India, Sectoral development, Foreign Trade, and International economy.

Indian society and culture– This section tests the candidate’s basic knowledge about Indian society and culture such as the structure of Indian society, Social change in India, Medieval and Modern Indian history, Indian philosophy and thinkers, Indian traditions, and knowledge systems

World affairs– This section tests the candidate’s knowledge about the worldly affairs such as the Emergence of the US and USSR, emergency of the UN system, Cold war and Nuclear race, Communism and rise of nationalism, Indian and the world, India and its relation with other countries, Democracy and development around the world, Globalization, Hunger and Poverty, Civilization, Mass media, and cultural change, Mass movements and others.

Environment and ecology– This section is indicated to test the candidate’s knowledge about the environment and the Ecology of the planet such as Global environmental picture, Ecosystems, Pollution, Principles of energy

Part 2 Topics
Essay writing Topics for essay writing will be based on current affairs and general knowledge. The essay should build an argument, demonstrate a clear perspective, and be substantiated with examples, whenever possible.

HSEE 2022 Admit Card

Admit Card is a very important document during the examination. Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Madras will issue HSEE 2022 Admit Card. The admit can be downloaded from May 30, 2022. Candidates can download the Humanities and Social Sciences Entrance Examination (HSEE) admit card from hsee.iitm.ac.in. The HSEE 2022 Admit Card can be downloaded by providing details like e-mail id / user id and password. It is mandatory to take the hall ticket to the examination center as it contains details like name and address of the examination center, time of commencement of examination and end of examination. If the candidates find any discrepancy in the hall ticket, they can inform the chairman of HSEE-2022 through phone/fax/e-mail.

HSEE 2022 Exam Instruction

  1. Candidates will not be allowed inside the exam centre without an admit card.
  2. Candidates must bring their own belongings, borrowing from others will not be encouraged by the invigilator.
  3. Candidates should enter the exam centre 1 hour prior to the time mentioned by the authorities.
  4. Candidates will not be allowed inside the hall even if they late by a minute.
  5. Candidates will not be allowed with any electronics device inside the centre.

HSEE 2022 Answer key

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Madras, releases the HSEE answer key under the login portal at hsee.iitm.ac.in. The answer key has all the correct answers to the questions asked in the paper. Candidates can view the HSEE 2022 answer key and calculate the probable scores for the exam. The candidates can calculate their scores according to the marking scheme. The Part 2 of HSEE will not have any answer key because it is subjective in nature.

HSEE 2022 Result

The result is based on the total number of candidates in HSEE 2022. A rank link will be prepared for the candidates who get minimum 50% marks. However, separate rank lists will be created for GEN-EWS, OBC-NCL, SC, ST and PwD. Candidates can check the results using their email id or with their login ID and password at the official website hsee.iitm.ac.in.

The reservation of seats is as follows:

  • For GEN-EWS students, 10% of seats are reserved.
  • For OBC students, 27% of seats are reserved.
  • For SC students,15% seats are reserved.
  • For ST students,7.5% seats for are reserved.
  • For PWD students,5% of seats are reserved.

Upon clearing the exam, during the HSEE counseling HSEE offers a total intake capacity of 58 seats for both Development Studies and English Studies streams; each stream will have 29 seats. PWD students will accommodate 5% of the total number of seats.
